Breaker Size For Old Knob And Tube
Have bought my dream house. A 1902 with knob and tube elec. that still works! It is a 2 story, 6000 sq ft house (needs MUCH work). I want to install an elevator in later years and I want to use this old knob and tube that is original to the house. My question is what size breaker do I use for wall plugs and what size do I use for lights?

I have 2 light switches in my entry and need to add a 3rd. So…I removed the old 2-space metal box and will be replacing it with a 3-gang old-work box.
The issue I’m anticipating having is: The old knob & tube wires coming in aren't very long. As the locations of the openings for the wires in the 3-gang box is a bit different than the old box, I’m worried that the wires now won’t be long enough to now reach the light switches. So, my questions are... If I need to add 6” or so to some of these wires, is it okay to just splice a new piece of 14-gauge wire onto them?? I simply didn't know if you're allowed to do this. If so, is this just a matter of using a plastic twist cap to connect them…with everything being done inside the new box? Thanks so much for your advice.
I'm currently working on a house built in the 1930's. The electrical is a mess with a combination of a switch panel and a fuse box with most of it still being knob and tube. I'm running a new electrical line to the air handler in the basement. This is due to it currently being tapped off a light circuit which also feeds an outlet in the kitchen, a bedroom, and half the outlets upstairs. (There's no rhyme or reason to the current electrical setup).
My main question is I'm running 12NM through bored holes in the studs to the air handler. Once I get to the handler and run it down to where it enters the appliance and switch box will I run in to codes problems. Should this run in the basement be inside a conduit or is NM cable okay? Any guidance would be appreciated.
We want to run 110V service to a portable building 95' from the breaker box at the house. It will run a 110V 8000 BTU AC (dedicated breaker), two single bulb light fixtures and 2 additional wall outlets. Our breaker box at the house is full, but I am being told I can remove a single breaker in the box and replace it with one that contains two breakers. What is the name of this type of breaker and where can I get one? What size breaker should be used for this amount of power requirement? What size breakers should I have in the load center on the portable building?
What size wire is needed to run 100' from the main breaker panel at the house to a portable building? The load center at the protable building will run an 8000 BTU 110V window AC, two single bulb light fixtures and one 110V wall eletrical outlet.

I have a tankless hot water heater with the following requirements:
Voltage/Freq:240v/60 Wattage:21kw Max amp load: 88 Min req circuit breaker: 2x60 Min wire size: 2x8 AWG copper (note:should be 2x6) Amps to house is 200. Breaker box is 10 years old with space to add new breaker. The old 30 breaker will come out, new 2x60 in, and new wiring will need to be run approx 15 feet to location of old water heater. Initial quotes from electricians via phone are all over the place and I have someone coming to house on Friday for a site estimate. In my understanding, the work is straight forward as stated above. What am I missing? Or what might the electricians be thinking I am not (besides pulling a $40 permit)?
I put in a 240v circuit with two AWG 4 and AWG 6 for ground THHN, less than 20' from the panel. this is for a future welder, compressor or whatever. What size breaker should I put in?
Need to run wire for automatic horse waterers (1.3 amps each) to an open field about 350' away from the barn.
Ran 14/2 UF wire to 3 waterers inside the barn. 350' away from barn, is #10 wire OK for such a small load (1.3 amps for each waterer - 3 waterers in the field)? or do I need #8? In the field, need to run to 3 separate wateres, so I think I need a subpanel out in the field... How do I install the subpanel in an outdoor setting & what materials do I need? If #10 wire is ok, I need 10/3 UF to run from the main panel to the subpanel - correct? Also, does the entire run need to be in conduit? What size conduit if needed? Is 18" deep enough? What size breaker at the main panel? What size breaker at the subpanel?--> only need to run 3 waterers (1.7 amps each) and maybe two separate circuits of outdoor receptacles... What else is needed here? type of outdoor subpanel, grounding rods, etc...???? Thanks for the help!
I know this has been done to death but, just want to make sure that I headed in the right direction. O.K. I'm building a 12x16 shed and need to know what size wire to use. I plan on having lights, saws, mini fridge, deep freeze, air compressor and maybe a small a/c unit in the summer. I plan on having everything on different circuits like lights on 15A, fridge and freezer on 20A, have plugs on bench on 20A, air compressor on 20A, and mini a/c on 20A. I plan on using romex 14/2 for 15A and 12/2 for 20A. With sub panel http://www.homedepot.com/Electrical-...&storeId=10051 or something like it. My shed is about 30' from the meter loop. So, what size wire do I use from the meter loop 6/2????? Do I need to use a ground rod at the shed? Thanks for looken!!!!!
Is it o.k. to use 12/2 to make a pigtail off 14/2 wiring. Have hot feed coming in to switch that feeds ceiling fan/light (14/2). It is also hot feed for receptacles. I am replacing manufactured home style switch and installing normal switch and remodel box into wall. I just don't have any spare 14/2 laying around bit do have some 12/2. I was pretty sure can go up in wire size especially just for pigtails but wanted be 100% certain.
